Your Donations Make a Difference

Thanks to your generosity, the Friends are able to fund programs, outreach, and special events that bring our community together and inspire lifelong learning.

For the upcoming fiscal year (2025–26), the Atherton Library has requested a total of $21,543 in support from the Friends of the Atherton Library. This includes funding for early literacy, all-ages programs, giveaway books, staff development, and the purchase of new sound equipment to enhance public events. The details are listed HERE.

From the Atherton Library

Atherton Library is deeply grateful for the support from the Friends of Atherton Library. Through generous donations and strategic partnerships, the Friends of the Atherton Library help power meaningful outreach, enrich Makerspace programming, and strengthen community connections.  

Enriching School Outreach
This year, Atherton Library had its strongest school outreach in recent years, thanks to support from the Friends. Staff participated in events at Atherton elementary schools as well as weekly events at Menlo Atherton High School with giveaway books and engaging activities.
A particular highlight was Atherton Library’s inaugural presence at the Menlo Park Atherton Education Foundation Schoolhouse Rocks 5K. Local families were delighted by the giant lawn games, 3D-printed keychains, and giveaway books supplied by Friends donations.
  
Makerspace Innovations 
One of the highlights of the Atherton Library is its cutting-edge Makerspace. Donations to the Friends help the Maker team purchase unique tools, such as heat guns for screenprinting and 3D printing and a rotary cutter for maker programs. These tools enable the Atherton Library to expand our maker programs and make them more inclusive by offering a variety of activities.

Impactful Community Events and Programs 
National Night Out, in collaboration with the Atherton Police Department and Town of Atherton, was a huge success for Atherton Library this year! We offered live screenprinting on tote bags, generously funded by the Friends. This instructor-led activity taught attendees how screenprinting works, and they left the event with a special, custom bag with a unique Atherton design.  

This year, Atherton Library launched a Nature Journaling series in Holbrook Palmer Park thanks in part to the Friends of Atherton Library. Generous donations from the Friends allowed us to purchase special journals and pens for participants and hire an instructor for these monthly meetups.  

Atherton Library also held its first-ever End of Summer party for families in Holbrook Palmer Park. This joyous party celebrated the closing of our Summer Adventure reading program with a special visit from the Bubblesmith bubble artist, thanks to the Friends of the Atherton Library.
